Martin Genodepa, Ilonggo stone sculptor
Meet Martin Genodepa, Ilonggo visual artist who specializes in coral stone sculpture. Not to worry, environmentalists. Martin, who lives in the southern coastal town of Guimbal, does not extract corals from under the sea. Martin acquires coral stone blocks that have hardened off the shorelines of Guimbal to San Joaquin to as far as Antique. On that orange wall, a section of his lovely beach house (Inday Hami just loves it!) are two examples of his numerous works. Martin is not only known locally. He has exhibited a couple of times in Manila. I recall he had a successful one-man show at the famed Hiraya Gallery. He was also offered a scholarship to an art school in Vermont, USA.
Do you know that one of his favorite tools in sculpting is a binangon or bolo? Very Ilonggo.

Nice to know my former English Teacher at UPV has given up teaching for sculpting.
